The 2010 State Derby is being presented again this year by our original title sponsors Dan Cava Toyota, the Greater Bridgeport Convention & Visitors Center, Dan Ryan Builders, Michael L. Queen & Associates, Petroleum Development Corporation and Huntington Banks.
This State Derby is designed not only for our participating scouts to have a great time, but to also showcase scouting as a family activity. This State Derby allows Daisies, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and Moms and Dads to get in on the action. The entire scout family is welcomed!
Pinewood Derby Racers from All Over the State Expected for Two-Day Championships!
This is the fifth year that West Virginia Pinewood Derby State Championships will be held in Bridgeport, West Virginia. We are pleased to welcome the scouts from the Stonewall Jackson District who will join the State Derby as part of their District Race.
This is the only annual and on-going Pinewood Derby State Championship in the United States. The State Derby Committee can accommodate up to 400 racers utilizing newly acquired timing gates, set on eight-track, regulation-sized aluminum track approved by Boy Scouts of America. This is the 54th year of Pinewood Derby racing in West Virginia.
Who is Eligible to Race in the State Championships?
Any Cub Scout, Boy Scout or Girl Scout associated with or a member of any Council, Pack or Troop in the state of West Virginia is eligible to participate in this State Derby. Racers DO NOT have to live in West Virginia to be eligible to race as long as they are members of a Council that includes or is headquartered in West Virginia. For questions or clarification, please contact State Derby Director Cindy Prunty.
All Cub Scout racers as well as Girl Scouts, Daisies and Brownie racers will only be permitted to race cars built in strict compliance with the rules established by the State Derby Committee (see Rules Page on the State Derby website).
The Dads Division, Moms Division and the Boy Scout Division is ANYTHING GOES -- with the cars only having to comply with the width, height and length requirements (see Rules Page). The "anything goes" races are fun to watch!
All scouts are required to wear a Class A uniform shirt while racing. Blue jeans (pants) are permissible for scout racers.
The State Derby Committee will award trophies to the "Top 12" fastest racers in each Division.
